The 260°C "Safety Margin": What Are the Limits of a Food-Grade Insulation Cover?
Our three-layer structure — silicone-coated composite fabric inner liner + fiberglass Felt Insulation layer + silicone-coated composite fabric outer layer — does not have uniform temperature tolerance across all layers. Fiberglass felt itself withstands over 500°C. The silicone-coated fabric is the "temperature bottleneck" of the entire system. Under prolonged high heat, silicone rubber gradually hardens, loses elasticity, develops micro-cracks on the surface, and its waterproof performance declines.
Therefore, when designing Insulation Covers for food customers like Yihai Kerry, we made several key choices:
Fastener temperature matching. Standard nylon hook-and-loop fasteners have a long-term temperature limit of only 80–120°C and fail rapidly above 200°C. Based on actual equipment operating temperatures, we match high-temperature fasteners or supplementary fixation methods, ensuring "holding securely" takes priority over "fastening conveniently."
Thread thermal matching. Fiberglass Fire-resistant thread has a temperature rating matched to the fiberglass felt, so it does not become the weak link that fails before the insulation layer. Stitch spacing and pattern are also optimized to reduce thermal bridging.
Honest communication about temperature margin. We do not recommend long-term use of silicone-coated fabric covers above 250°C. If operating conditions genuinely require higher temperatures, ceramic fiber or aerogel composite solutions should be selected — this is more responsible than letting a customer "make do" and face a return repair six months later.
The true capability of an insulation cover is not in how high its rated number is, but in how long it performs stably under the customer's actual operating conditions. For food processing applications, stability matters more than extremes.
